SASSA Application Identity Verification

To protect your personal information and ensure the right support reaches those who qualify, SASSA has implemented secure identity verification methods. These methods are used to confirm your identity when applying for grants or accessing grant-related services.

Methods of Identity Verification

These steps will help you understand the process and complete the Identity Verification accurately:

1. Biometric Verification

  • Facial Recognition: The most common biometric method. You’ll receive an SMS with a link to a secure webpage where you can take a clear photo of your face. This photo is compared to the photo on your ID document to confirm your identity.
  • Fingerprint Scanning: This method may be required in specific cases, especially for in-person verification at a SASSA office.

2. Online KYC Identity Verification

After reviewing these steps, click on the “Start KYC Verification” button to begin.

Step 1: Enter Personal Details

  • Enter your South African ID number as it appears on your identity document.
  • Provide the contact number associated with your SASSA application.
  • Click on lookup button.

Step 2: Confirm Identity Information

Once your phone number is verified, you’ll be prompted to enter additional identity details:

  • Full Name and Surname as listed on your ID.
  • Date of Birth as it appears on your ID document.
  • Click Continue to proceed.

Step 3: Address Verification

  • Provide your residential address, including street name, city, and postal code.
  • This helps SASSA verify your location as part of the KYC process.

Step 4: Upload Supporting Documents

  • Upload a clear copy of your ID document for additional verification.
  • Ensure that the document is legible to avoid any delays in verification.
  • Click Submit Documents.

After submitting your information, a confirmation message will appear on the screen indicating that your KYC verification is complete.

Note: Make sure all information provided matches the details on your official ID documents to avoid any issues during the verification process.
